Sebastian County Parks Department initiated a 110-acre tallgrass prairie restoration and reconstruction in 2016 within Ben Geren Park’s 27-hole golf course in Fort Smith, Ark. Ben Geren Golf Course contains mesic and dry degraded prairies that were once part of Massard Prairie as well as turfgrass areas being converted back to native tallgrass prairie communities. Jay Randolph, CGCS, reviews actions taken in restoration of this property that also kept a playable golf course intact during this 90-minute webinar. From first steps in the restoration process, including flora and fauna inventories to ways to work with partners like the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Quails Forever and volunteers from Arkansas Master Naturalists. About the Instructor
Jay Randolph, CGCS, was born in Vinita, Okla. and earned a bachelors in Horticulture from Oklahoma State University. Randolph has worked on golf courses since he was 14 years old and is currently Sebastian County Park Administrator/Certified Golf Course Superintendent for Ben Geren Regional Golf Course. Randolph has twice been president of the Arkansas Golf Course Superintendent Association and has served on the GCSAA Bylaws and Standards Committee. He has been a Certified Golf Course Superintendent since 2005 and is a past speaker at the GCSAA Conference.
