About the Host
Jan Bel Jan comes from Pittsburgh, Penn. golf family. Her father, George BelJan, was a golf pro/superintendent; three of his five “in the golf business” brothers were peer-respected PGA professionals. From them, she learned the game and business of golf. Bel Jan began her design career with Tom Fazio with whom she held a senior position in golf course design, construction and project management for more than twenty years. Her experience as a registered Landscape Architect, Certified Arborist and former assistant superintendent, provide her with a unique outlook on the playability, strategy, ecology, and economics of golf courses. Bel Jan now maintains her own golf course design firm, is serving as Treasurer of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) and is an Adjunct Professor at Hodges University in Naples, Fla. In 2000 and 2005, she was noted in Sports Illustrated Plus lists of the “Top Ten Most Influential Women in the Game of Golf.”
About the Case Study Presenters
Rob Kloska, Director of Golf Course, Grounds and Tennis Maintenance at the Jupiter Island Club has been a GCSAA member and a leader in Florida for over 25 years. A native of Steubenville, Ohio, Kloska earned his associate’s degree in turfgrass management from The Ohio State University. Prior to his current position, he worked as the golf course superintendent at the Jupiter Island Club and as the superintendent at Champions Club at Summerfield in Stuart, Fla. Kloska has been a speaker at several events at the Golf Industry Show.
Jason Zimmerman, CGCS, Director of Greens & Grounds at Pelican’s Nest Golf Club, has been working in the golf course industry since he was 14. He earned his bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management from Michigan State University and first achieved his GCSAA certification in 2004. Zimmerman’s early work experience includes time in South Carolina and Michigan before becoming the superintendent at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Clearwater, Fla., site of an annual PGA event. He is a past panelist from the Golf Industry Show.
